Last Friday, an injured deer walked into a Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Wisconsin, forcing an evacuation of patrons.
According to WDJT Milwaukee, the deer was injured before making its way into the grocery store, after it apparently slammed into a set of glass windows at the strip mall. The manager of Piggly Wiggly, Mike Edwards, said: “It had a broken leg obviously, and there was a little bit of blood.”
Despite its injuries, the deer managed to walk inside the store with the help of the automatic doors. Edwards said he initially feared for the customers, but then felt compassion for the deer.
He told WDJT News: “Everyone was in shock because you don’t expect a deer to be inside the building.
While the deer didn’t cause any damage and eventually laid down in the liquor section, police and Department of Natural Resources still advised customers and employees to evacuate the store.
“Right in mid-shopping so there were carts all over the store half full and carts in the checkout lanes,” said Edwards. After about an hour, authorities removed the deer but sadly it had to be put down due to its injuries.
