AL’s expenditure Tk 30m, BNP’s Tk 39m

Ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Monday submitted the audited report on their financial statements of 2016 calendar year to the election commission.

UNB news agency reported the AL showed that the party's annual income is about Tk 18.2 million higher than its expenditure and the BNP showed that it earned only Tk 41.368 million while spent Tk 39.963 million during the period.

UNB adds: An AL delegation, led by its presidium member Abdur Razzak, handed over the report to chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda around 10:30am.

According to the report, AL's total revenue was Tk 48.434 million in 2016, while its expenditure was Tk 30.184 million.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi handed over the financial report to the chief election commissioner around 4:30pm at Nirbachon Bhaban.

According the report, BNP earned only Tk 41.368 million while spent Tk 39.963 million during the period.

Though the party had deficit in recent years, BNP had Tk 1.404 million in deposit last year.

Talking to reporters, Rizvi said the sources of their party's income are party members' subscriptions, donation, and selling of the party's constitution and other publications.

"Our party spent the money in its various programmes, including the arrangements of meetings and iftar parties," he said.

According to the law, registered political parties are obliged to submit its financial statement of the previous calendar year by 31 July 31.
